We reckon travel should mean more.

Kangaroo Island is one of South Australia’s most special places, and we reckon travelling there should mean more than just ticking off the sights. The Groovy KI Clean Up is our way of bringing people together to enjoy the island, support the local community and give something small back while we’re there.

"Small actions, taken together, leave the places we love better than we found them."

Meet Nikki Redman.

Kangaroo Island Guardian, photographer & conservation advocate

Nikki Redman is a passionate Kangaroo Island tour guide, photographer and conservation advocate, recognised as one of the island’s “Island Guardians”. With a deep love for KI’s wildlife, coastlines and natural landscapes, Nikki is dedicated to protecting the place she calls home.

As part of our KI Clean Up Initiative, Nikki brings local knowledge, genuine passion and a hands-on commitment to conservation. She’ll help guide the experience, share stories from the island, and show how small actions can make a real difference.

This isn't a new idea for Groovy

Long before “sustainable travel” became a buzzword, Groovy Grape was already finding fun ways to encourage travellers to give back.

Back in the day

More than 20 years ago, Groovy teamed up with an Adelaide Backpackers and offered travellers a free Barossa Valley day tour in exchange for helping pick up rubbish around Adelaide’s most popular foreshore, Glenelg.

Bringing it back

today

We’re relaunching that same hands-on spirit with the Groovy KI Clean Up – giving travellers the chance to explore Kangaroo Island while doing something genuinely useful.

An annual tradition

future

The Groovy KI Clean Up will now become an annual Groovy tradition, supporting Kangaroo Island’s wildlife, beaches and natural environment.

Supporting Kangaroo Island's Wildlife

Our Kangaroo Island Clean Up initiative is proudly supported by the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network, with 100% of each $100 commitment fee donated directly to support their work.

The Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the island’s unique wildlife. Their work includes rescuing and rehabilitating injured, sick, orphaned and displaced animals, as well as supporting environmental protection and habitat restoration projects.

Formed in 2015, the network brings together dedicated local wildlife carers and conservation volunteers who play an important role in keeping wildlife in the wild and supporting the long-term health of Kangaroo Island’s natural environment.

Things you might want to know.

Quick answers to the questions we get asked most often.

The Groovy KI Clean Up is a 2-day Kangaroo Island adventure with purpose. You’ll explore the island, take part in a clean-up activity, support a local Kangaroo Island cause and enjoy a small-group experience with like-minded travellers.

Only slightly. You’ll still enjoy the full Kangaroo Island tour experience, including beaches, wildlife, local produce, Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Seal Bay and more. The difference is that this departure also includes a group clean-up activity and a donation to a local KI cause.

No. The clean-up is one important part of the trip, but the experience also includes time exploring Kangaroo Island, enjoying the scenery, spotting wildlife and connecting with the group.

We’ll provide the basic clean-up gear, including a bag, gloves and a grabber. Further details will be provided before departure.

We donate your $100 commitment fee to a local Kangaroo Island charity, the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network. We make no money from this tour and just want to make a genuine impact.

You don’t need to be super fit, but you should be comfortable walking outdoors and taking part in a light clean-up activity. The experience is designed to be accessible, social and enjoyable.

This special departure includes the same inclusions as our regular Kangaroo Island tour, including return transport from Adelaide, ferry crossings, accommodation, meals, guided touring, national park highlights, local stops and wildlife experiences. It also includes a clean-up kit, a $100 donation per person to a local KI cause and a free Groovy Barossa Day Tour.
